Long Island as the name suggests, is a long thin island located parallel to the mainland in the center of the Whitsundays region. It is made up of a central ridge which declines on either side to a series of bays, headlands and beaches and is extremely beautiful and a fantastic place to go bushwalking. It is only a short distance from Shute Harbour and Hamilton Island is nearby on its ocean side. It can be accessed by helicopter transfers or by a regular ferry service. There are two main resorts on the island that both attract tourists. Peppers Palm Bay resort is one of the Whitsundays best small luxury hideaways. If you are looking for place to stay where there are very few guests, the food and accommodation is exclusive and the five star service is great, then this is probably right for you. There are only 21 secluded beach front accommodation bures available here. They are set along the beachfront below a plantation of waving coconut palms and the relaxing effect of these surroundings is palpable. La Riviera is the signature restaurant and the food is top class. This is the place to kick back and just relax in idyllic surroundings rather that holiday in a busy resort where you are on the go all the time.
Long Island resort is located a little further south, on the island, on its own beautiful bay and beach. This is more of a family resort with kids activities and meals included in the tariffs. It is about three and a half star rating and can be accessed from Hamilton Island or Shute Harbour. There is a great pool and plenty of watersports including jet skis, catamarans and canoes. The waterfront has a beautiful beach and the accommodation mostly has water views. Long Island is a place where you can choose the standard of the resort that appeals to you. »» Long Island |
